Social media has been overrun by people bashing Donald Trump and wondering how he could be winning. The conservatives complain he’s not really a conservative. The liberals call him racist, sexist, and other names. I’m here to tell both sides that he is exactly what you created.

Let’s start with the conservatives. You complain he is not really a conservative. That he believes in a woman’s right to choose and gay marriage. Guess what. The majority of Americans believe in those things now. A conservative leaning Supreme Court upheld these rights. The efforts of the religious right to exclude anyone who doesn’t agree with them on social issues from the Republican party created this backlash. Economically and financially Trump is a conservative. It is the hypocrisy of the right that wants government to uphold their beliefs but deny the rights of others that has helped to create Trump. The government has no business curtailing the rights of the individual. That means that you have the right not to believe in abortion, but you don’t have the right to stop someone else from believing in it.

Now for the liberals. Your insane attraction to political correctness and the fascism of cracking down on any speech you don’t agree with helped create Trump. Wesleyan University was just named one of the worst colleges in the country for free speech because students tried to shut down the college paper for an editorial that was critical of the methods of the Black Lives Matter movement. Colleges are supposed to be teaching critical thinking, not stifling it. Furthermore, liberal activists have stated in print (most notably Ed Asner in an interview with the Hollywood Reporter) that they disagree with Obama’s policies but won’t speak out because they don’t want to be called racist. This rampant political correctness caused a backlash where people want to hear someone speak like Trump is.

Finally, to the American public in general. Trump is the result of the fascination with reality television. The train wreck that is the Kardashians, Honey Boo, and all the other morons that pollute our airwaves are there because people watch them. You don’t want this behavior? Stop watching.

Trump may not be a great presidential candidate, but he’s the candidate that America created.
